Though I am not a mother myself nor have I given birth, my mother’s pregnancy with my first Sibling, a boy 10 years younger than me, it completely changed my brain chemistry. It was March 28th and he was born at 14:42. A number that stood as all of my device passwords until I had my first anniversary with my partner.

It was only me and my momma in that house, dad was deployed over in Okinawa as a marine. She came in to wake me up, I sat up confused asking why we were up so early. Her last pre due date checkup wasn’t until 8 am? No she was having my first baby brother. I love this story and I will forever treasure those little memories, mundane things that still make me grin and grimace.

Our car had sensitive brakes, my Lola was supposed to drive us to the hospital in the city. The car kept jerking and finally, 8 minute between contractions, this woman drove her laboring self to a hospital 35 minutes away.

The nurses asked me if I wanted to step out. I said no, that’s my mom. They asked a few more times, I kept my eyes on my tablet doing class work. Really my eyes were on her.

That was the only sibling who’s birth I was able to attend.

Probably one of the more life changing moments of my life.

My little password brother and my strong as could be mother, and the reasons to this day I still want to be a mom when my time comes!

    Hi Hayley,

Thank you for sharing. I think it’s beautiful that you got to experience the birth of your brother. I can only imagine the bond that experience created with both your brother and your mom.

The empathy that you must have experienced during the birth, seeing someone you deeply love going through that and bringing someone into the world that you deeply loved even before they were born is such an overwhelmingly empathetic situation.

All that love is truly beautiful.
