Shafia Monroe
SMC Certified Doula Trainer

Shafia Monroe recognizes her Alabama roots and incorporates the Southern style of healing, using the laying on of hands, herbs, and prayer.
Shafia Monroe is a Master of Public Health, a veteran midwife, and a certified doula trainer. She is an elder, a wife, a mother of seven, and a grandmother of many.
Her years of traveling internationally has gifted her to meet people of different cultures, learn traditional healing practices and postpartum foods. This has helped her to create community, improve birth outcomes, and help families welcome a new baby to the world.
Shafia Monroe loves teaching and has been an SMC trainer since 2002. Her forward-thinking training style encompasses cultural awareness, sisterhood, humor, and leadership. Learn more about Shafia.
Samsarah Morgan
SMC Certified Doula Trainer

Samsarah Morgan is the Mother of 5 sons and the grandmother of three, has been a doula for over 40 years and has served over 1000 births.
Samsarah Morgan has been training doulas for over 20 years. In 2016, she became a certified SMC Full Circle Doula Birth Companion Trainer for Shafia Monroe Consulting/Birthing Change. She maintains an active doula practice and has assisted in over 1000 births.
She is an Interfaith Minister and Counselor, a Family Life Coach, and Hypnotherapist. She is an author and published the “Birth Plan.” She attends The National School of Midwifery and is apprenticing under two dynamic community midwives.
Samsarah is an advocate for the doula profession and was a major organizer to keep doulas in hospitals as essential workers during the COVID-19 pandemic for client safety. Learn more about Samsarah.
Lorenda Lewis
Trainer Apprentice

Lorenda is a remarkable figure in the holistic health and doula community, bringing over 20 years of medical expertise and a rich background in holistic health to her work.
As president of the Motor City Doula Association and a member of the Doula Advisory Council for the State of Michigan, she is deeply involved in shaping and supporting the doula profession at a high level.
She is a proud mother of seven, including two sets of twins.
Terrie Boles
Trainer Apprentice

Terrie Boles is a health care professional, midwife, and mother.
She maintains a non-profit that provides free prenatal care to houseless pregnant women.
She has worked diligently on Georgia legislation that would allow its citizens to choose where and with whom they give birth.
