I have two graphs, one from 1993-2012 and one from 2010-2012. It is really astonishing to me not only to find that the infant mortality rates for Black babies is double or more the rates for white babies, but that the Native American infant mortality rates are even higher in a lot of years. This is clear evidence of an epidemic and this should have been taken seriously by the government decades ago.

Thank you for sharing this, Jocelyn. I was also deeply disturbed by how much higher the infant mortality rates were among Black and Native American babies compared with White babies. What makes it even more heartbreaking is that this have continued for so many years, showing that this was never just an isolated problem. I completely agree that it should have been recognized and treated as a serious public health crisis decades ago. Every mother and baby deserves equal access to quality care, support, and the opportunity to survive and thrive.
