Birth Story

My birth story is also a testimony of the Most High’s power, love and presence in our lives.

It was July 20th, I was 41 + 4 days. I had planned to birth at a birth center, but in Colorado you can only birth there 37-42 weeks. They were doing non-stress tests and suggesting intervention. I was desperate to have a spontaneous, natural birth and was praying but anxiety was high. After our visit, they had us schedule an induction at a hospital for July 24 (would be 42 weeks). I was so sad and anxious.

We get home, I ask my boyfriend to randomly open the Bible and read. He started reading, we ended up in tears. He randomly read from 2 Chronicles 7:10 which states “on the twenty third day of the seventh month, he sent the people to their homes, joyful and glad in heart for the good things the LORD had done…” We knew that God would be with us and to not fear. Lo and behold, I went into labor the evening of July 22, and I knew in my heart she would be born on the 23rd because of what the Lord had shown us.

It was an intense and hard labor. My boyfriend slept, I stayed up all night showering, bathing, moving. I was in much pain mostly around my hips, it felt like the bones were moving and nothing was helping. Around 4am it became unbearable and I woke my boyfriend up because I wanted to change my birth plan, go to hospital and get pain intervention. I even wanted a C section. He stood firm with me and I am thankful for that. We got to the birth center at 7am, I was 6cm dilated. I labored on the toilet/in tub, hung from a ladder and used inflatables. At one point I felt my fetal ejection reflex. My butthole felt like it was dilating and I couldn’t stop the urge to push. After that things became serious fast and I could feel her head with my hands; it gave me a huge sense of energy, courage and joy.

I was on my hands and knees, with every contraction I BREATHED her head out on my exhale. I did not push except to get her body out. The midwives wanted me to push but I said “no, I have to wait for the next surge.” I instinctively knew this and it came out of nowhere. I would breathe her head out on the surge and suck it back in after. I did this for 3-4 surges and her head came out with a short ring of fire. She did get stuck on my pelvis and I had to flip onto my back which caused a rotated pelvis and some issues I have to still work on to this day. Hindsight I wish they had moved my legs around instead of flipping me over. Anywho, she came out with only one push after her head was out, and I felt the most relief and adrenaline I have ever felt in my whole life. I actually started hemorrhaging and they had to give me Pitocin and get the placenta out right away. Hindsight, I wish I had been more calm in that moment because I am sure that was the reason I was bleeding so much. Overall I am so proud of myself and my midwives for helping me breathe through each surge and relax body parts. Amazing experience and if God is willing I want to have my future babies at home because I know now my body is beyond capable. God is so good and I am beyond thankful to get to experience childbirth and motherhood.

🙌🏽🙌🏽Wow what an amazing testimony and story to share with us and for your daughter to hear about her transition into the world. Having the scripture playing in the background was so helpful for me. Kudos to your boyfriend for being the strength you needed to support you through an amazing journey. Something else stood out is when you said NO! And chose to wait until your body was ready. Thanks again for sharing.

Thank you so much for seeing me. Scripture is so powerful in so many ways; I am so glad it was so helpful for you too. The power lives in all of us, we just have to remember. Having a supportive and faithful birth team is so important to support us through the most sacred transition.
