State Approved Doula Training
Over 30 states now offer Medicaid reimbursement for doula care or are in the process of implementing benefits! Medicaid covers 65% of Black births and nearly 60% of Latina births. Being a certified doula for Medicaid reimbursement is essential for building a successful doula practice.
Certain states require that a doula complete a state-approved doula training program to be eligible to receive Medicaid reimbursement for doula services. Not all states provide Medicaid benefits for doula services and not all states approve doula programs. You should check with your state to determine all training requirements. SMC Full Circle Doula Birth Companion Training is currently an approved doula training program in Arizona, California, Illinois, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New Jersey, Oklahoma, Oregon, Virginia, and Washington State.
Oregon THW Training Requirements
To qualify as an Oregon Traditional Healthcare Worker (THW), you will need to complete the following steps:
- SMC Full Circle Doula Birth Companion Training (which satisfies the Doula Training Requirement to earn the Oregon THW DOULA credential.
Separately, you will need to complete the following training through an approved provider:
- 4 Hours of Trauma Informed Care
- 6 Hours of Cultural Competency Training
- 1 Hour of Interprofessional Collaboration
- 1 Hour of HIPAA Training
