Doula Bag Jocelyn v.
This was hard because I wanted to pick more than 10 items, but I chose these items as being the most important essentials for supporting a mother’s birth and taking care of myself.
For self-care, I chose a travel hygiene kit with my toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, and some moisturizer for my face so I can stay clean and fresh. I will also pack my Bible, this is a way for me to stay grounded and anchored in the Most High’s will, remembering that I am a servant and have our Creator’s helping hand too. I will bring a change of clothes in case things get messy, and a hoodie in case I am cold. I will bring a prepared meal so I can stay nourished, either just for myself or for mother to be fed also if she desires. I will lastly bring my water bottle to remain hydrated throughout all of this.
In my doula bag for mother, I will bring body butter – I make my own so this will be great for rubbing on her and I can infuse oils into it for pain relief. I will bring a hot water bottle pack for relieving momma’s pain and sending heat/blood to areas of her body that need it, and to help her relax. I will bring tea bags, electrolyte powders and Calm supplements to aid in her nervous system support and hydration as she needs. I will bring gloves for sanitary purposes. Lastly, my journal and pen to document the timeline and birth story for the mother and to take any notes.
Below is a picture of my doula bag next to the oven for reference size: it’s small, portable and still holds a lot!
