Create a Birth Plan
Create a Birth Plan
1. BEFORE LABOR BEGINS
I expect, and trust, that my practitioner will seek my opinion, and that of my
partner, on all issues that may affect my birth experience or anything that
deviates from this plan.
This topic is very important because most mommies take their time in making a plan which will make them feel safe and comfortable throughout the journey of their labor. I think its very important that the practitioner gets the opinion of the mommy so that the mommy can still feel empowered, safe and in control.
2. PERSONAL STYLE
I would like my partner to have the opportunity to film and/or photograph
labor and delivery.
I chose this topic because the mommy will definitely be in a zone focusing on bringing baby safely into this world. Mommy deserves to see the full birth and how good of a job she did by being able to view the film and or photographs at a later time.
3. CULTURAL SENSITIVITY
Please knock before entering.
This is a very sacred time and mom deserves privacy and the right to ask to not be disturbed at certain times. So knocking allows mommy to be in control of who and when people enter he sacred space.
4.ACTIVE LABOR EXAMS
I would like to keep internal vaginal exams to a minimum.
Mommy should have the right to control when exams occur unless they are medically necessary. Mommy may want to be unbothered as much as possible to ensure she in the right state of mind and in her full natural birth mode to have a successful birth.
5. PAIN RELIEF
I would like the opportunity to try non-medical, non-invasive pain-relief
methods. Some therapies I feel would be useful for me include:
❑ Massage.
❑ Guided relaxation.
❑ Water (shower/bath).
❑ If bath or shower, I would like my partner to join me.
❑ Change in position.
❑ Hot/cold therapy.
❑ Acupressure.
❑ Acupuncture.
❑ Meditation/Deep breathing
If mommy would like a natural birth and have documented that on the birth plan, the fact that she want to try natural pain relief should be respected. If the mommy choses to use the methods on the list above she may feel more in control and this may allow her body to release the natural oxytocin to help with pain and to help her body progress in labor the way it was made to do.
6.TRANSITION
At this point, my body may be most sensitive. If I am feeling that my support
person’s or staff member’s voice and/or touch feels too much, I will indicate so.
One of the most important parts of labor is to keep mommy comfortable. If she feels like she would like to voice that she is not happy with voices or certain touch is should be addressed immediately.
7.IMMEDIATE NEWBORN CARE
In my ideal world, my healthy baby will be immediately placed on my chest.
If this is the case, he or she will be above the placenta and I would therefore
like to wait until the cord stops pulsating before it is clamped and cut.
I chose this item because most mommies want baby to receive full nutrients and all the natural benefits from the placenta until it stops pulsating and if this is her wish we should abide by what she ways because this would be a once in a lifetime opportunity with that specific birth.
