Honoring Legacy, Empowering Birth: The Vital Role of Black Doulas in Maternal Health
Black doulas play a vital role in addressing the maternal health crisis in the U.S., where Black women experience disproportionately high rates of maternal mortality and birth complications. Rooted in the legacy of Black midwives and community caregivers, Black doulas provide culturally competent, holistic, and emotionally attuned care that honors traditional birthing wisdom. Their training often emphasizes advocacy, nonviolent communication, reproductive justice, and ancestral knowledge—ensuring that Black birthing people receive affirming, informed, and empowering support.
SMC Doulas will add vital information and history to your doula journey and follow up mentorship and community.
